It is natural for us to set goals and work towards them. Sometimes we set goals that take years to achieve, but the important thing to do when we set goals and are working towards them is to live our lives to the fullest potential everyday. Living means to take every moment that you are gifted (I believe life is a gift), and utilize it in such a way that when you go to sleep at night all you feel is satisfaction.
The world makes it seems as though you have to be doing certain things to be satisfied with your life, but that is false. The perspective that the world projects on you (if internalized) cultivates anxiety, lack of confidence, poor self-worth, and hopelessness. You are the only one who can determine what satisfies you, not the world.
Some of us set goals for our education, our career, and our relationships, and we tell ourselves that if we achieve our goals, then things will be better, and we will start to live our lives the way we want to. This is a thinking error. The question that you must ask yourself is whose better, mine or the world’s ?? And, why can’t you continue enjoying your life while you are on the journey to your goal? There is no guarantee how things will be, therefore, live.
Staying focused on your goals is super important for achieving them. There is no doubt about that. However, while you are progressing towards walking across that stage, or launching your business, or finding a life partner, please, please, please, live your life. When you are working towards your career for example ? do you set the goal ? that in five years I will be working in my field as a … and sit back and wait? No, you study, train, gain experience, and work to bring in an income, while you make progress towards your goal.
You may have heard of the saying- time waits on no one. No matter if it is a 5 year goal or a ten year goal, you continue to have birthdays (I am putting this as gently as I can). This is why as you work towards your goal, you do the things that make you joyful, visit the places that give you peace, spend time with the people you care about; do something that you always thought of doing like learning to bake, writing an article to your local newspaper, learning to paint/play an instrument/play a sport, starting a blog, teaching a skill, or volunteering your time to help others. All of the above will feed your spirit, and when your spirit is fed and nurtured, everyday feels like you have already achieved your goals.
Live everyday intentionally. My moto is: do what I want when I want. Every minute that I am not working I do whatever I want to do, whenever I want to do it. If I want to stay in bed and read all day, I do that. If I want to make a five course meal for myself, I do that. if I want to call a friend and go for dinner, I do that. If I want to go and watch a movie by myself, I do that. I do what I want, whenever I want. This gives me deep satisfaction about my life, and when I wake up the next morning, I am grateful because I get to do life again.
Strive for your goals and give yourself every opportunity to achieve them, and in the midst of that ensure that you are utilizing every moment to do what you want when you want.
Be U Because No One Else Can.
